Mandarin's Corner

Editorial

by Milton Soong

Hello everyone, sorry about another, late issue. Unless something drastic happens between the time I write this column and when the final goes to the printer, you are probably holding this issue sometime in late July. My excuse this time two-fold: The quarter end crunch at work that demanded 10 hrs. days and six days a week, and my week long vacation in Reno (Golf was good, but I lost in blackjack).

Too many things are demanding my time lately, and that's the reason why I haven't been answerng my mails. Most of my S&S related inquires sitting in a in "pile" next to my computer, and I try to answer them after the current issue is finished. This "system" (if you call it that) means that depends on when you send in your mail, you might have to wait up to three months to get a reply-- I know this sucks, but that's the way it is!

On a similar vein, I am cutting back most of my writing commitment that I've planned. My Taiping army article is close to finish, so it might see the light of day sometime in the next two years. The Sino-French War article that I was planning is now," on hold. Now all of the above prediction would change if I won the lotto and not have to work ever again!

Ron Vaughn's article on the Niger is already on hand, but I have used up my stock of supporting articles. Please, I need short articles to fill up the next issue!
