WRG, DBM, and Vacuums

by Terry Gore

Phil Barker has announced the publication of the successor to WRG 7th: DBM. WRG 7th will be published once more with amendments, then Phil is going to forget tabout them and concentrate on the DBM derivatives.

This leaves a vacuum as far as WRG gamers go. No more official army lists, no WRG 8th--not an especially sorrowful event, many will say. So waht? Well, it will be open season on army lists. New lists will be published in Saga, Spearpoint, Slimngshot, and other magazines.

I'm finishing up another Pallas Armata booklet: Anglo-Scottish Wars, which will include 8 scenarios. I'd like to do a sequel for 12-th 15th centuries, and Garethis looking for a classical version.

Next issue will come out just after my editing debut in Spearpoint. It's strange juggling two journals. Saga is my own creation, so my loyalties are readily apparent. Two years from now, another editor willtake over Spearpoint while Saga will remain with me. I'm a servant of the members, though I don't consider the heirarchy as my governing body. Paul Georgian has given me free reign and I'll exercise my right to express my opinions much as I've done in SAGA. Again, I invite you to join NASAMW -- for $12.00 a year it's a bargain -- you'll get a 26+ page journal for starters. Send me $3.00 if you want to see a sample copy before joining.

At the same time, SAGA membership is growing. This year, I've passed the 150 subscriber (by direct mail) point. By the beginning of next year (Vol. VII), I'm anticipating 200 subscribers. This will allow me to use bulk mailing -- thus, I won't be limited to a 40-page newsletter, but can expand to 48 plus pages, something I can't afford to do paying full price for mailing. Of course, I'll need articles to achieve this goal (a subtle hint). I'm also looking for a classical and/or Biblical era Associate Editor. Any volunteers will achieve the ultimate honor of a free subscription. Send me a sample of your writing and I'll choose the 'lucky' associate. Until next time.
