EUROPEAN DARK AGES This tournament has been designed to give all those Viking and Norman players out there a chance to utilize their armies against similar opponents. Their southeastern European and Middle Eastern comtemporaries have not been included since the lighting is really too dissimilar. Since that is the case, out next theme tournament will be "Armies and Enemies of Byzantium'. The teen "Dark Ages" is somewhat debated and misused. I am defining it as the time between the fall of the western Roman Empire (476) and the Norman invasion of Britain (1066). We have included a few [look III armies in the Dark Ages tourney because they overlap tile period somewhat and have the same 'feel' as the more standard lists from the previous several hundred years. We have also gone 'cast' with a few lists but not neccasarily 'south', hence you will sex the Varangiano but not the Early Hungarians. In order to keep skirmishing cavalry to a minimum, we have limited their numbers in those armies using such troop types. Like all theme tournaments, some lists have restrictions. here arc tlx' lists and their restriclirmc If nothing is listed for that army, you can use anything in the list. # 61 Scots Irish: No Romans, no more than 36 Frankish mercenaries
Times: Round 1 Frid 6:00pm; Round 2 Sat 9:00am; Round 3 Sat 2pm; Round 4 Sun 9:30am. This will be a four round event although you probably will not have to play Sunday morning unless you are in the top bracket. Two variations of one list, 1600 points, 15 and 25mm brackets. Please remember that you can only mix troops if it says so in the list or if they arc on the same line. For example, you cannot mix Viking Biondi and Huscarls. All experimental rules will be used as well as special ones for this tournament only.
2. Troops that can wedge must pay an additional I pt per figure regardless of whether you have them wedge. 3. The Viking Shield Wall: steady Viking Huscarls or Biondi (from any list in which they appear) can form a 'shield wall' as a formation change. While in this formation, the unit does not take a waver test if frontally charger) by mounted. Time unit cannot move (unless forced by post combat results) while in this formation. It can fall out of (his formation and move 40 paces. If it becomes disordered, it automatically falls out of the formation. It cannot rally into a shield wall unless it started the rally move in that formation and steady. 4. Brittle Morale Factor: if a unit loses in melee and is forced to recoil, it counts an additional -1 next bound (non cumulative). Reg A and all B class troops ignore this minus. 5. Inspirational Leaders: Roll for your CinC 'character as if he were a sub-general but ignore any roll but a 6. If a 6 is rolled, your CinC counts the same as a Sacred Standard for morale effect, i.e., he represents Charlemagne, Arturios, Harold, William, etc. OPENAn all-book free for all. While this will be a qualifying heat for the NICT, as at Cold Wars, the emphasis will be on having a casual event for those not wanting to (or not having an army for) play in the Dark Age tourney. We will try historical pairings, if appropriate, and relative army list rength. So if you bring Seleucids, late Romans. Alexandrians, and the like, expect to play similar during your preliminary rounds. Times: Round I Thur 6:00pm; Fri 9am; Fri 2:00pm; Sun 9:30am. This will be a four round event although you probably will not have to play Sunday morning unless you are in the top bracket. Two variations of one list, 1600 points, 15 and 25mm brackets. All Experirncrrtal Rules will be used. MINI-OPENThis tournament is for those who cannot make it in Thursday for the standard Open but not in the Dark Age tourney. lime focus here is on smaller armies and smaller table sizes. ke the Open, this will he a NICT qualifier but we will emphasize a casual atomosphere.
