WRG 7th

Q&A With Phil Barker

by Terry Gore and Phil Barker

Phil, what about the rumors about WRG 8th? Any chance we'll see this soon?

PHIL: THERE ISN'T GOING TO BE AN 8TH. 7TH WILL BE UPDATED AND MAINTAINED. THE DBA RELATED SET IS CURRENTLY CALLED DBM AND IS PLANNED FOR 1993. IT ISN'T MATURE ENOUGH TO PASS OUT.

1. Unit A is a LI unit with JLS/Sh. It declares in Impetuous charge against the LI archer unit B, 40 paces away. Directly behind the LI archer unit B is a unit of HC, unit C. They also have declared an impetuous charge on unit A! Unit S evades the attack of unit A. Does unit A still contact the HC (as they did declare an impetuous charge). or, since they are LI, do they have to halt or evade?

PHIL:'A' ARE NOT PRE-EMPTED BY 'C'. 'A' CAN CONTACT 'C' BECAUSE 'C' ARE DISORDERED. AS 'A' IS NOT PRE-EMPTED, IT DOES NOT RESPOND, SO HAS NO OPTION TO STAND OR EVADE.

#2. Can units in a 'Must Rally' situation declare charges?
NO!

Countercharge?
YES.

3. HC unit A inflicts 3 times as many casualties as it took and 1 CPF on LMI unit B. It opts to break through unit 8 (which is disordered because it is pushed back 40 paces by mounted). Unit A did not receive 3 CPF, so is not disordered. Does unit B have to take a Waver Test for 2nd cause or disorder?
NO, IT 13 CONSIDERED SIMULTANEOUS WITH THE RECOIL.

Is A allowed to turn around and charge into the rear of unit 8 next bound, since unit A is NOT disordered?
NO, IT HAS TO RALLY FORWARD.

4. When a HK unit has a converted charge, does it count for additional fatigue both +1 for charging as well as +1 for charging again?
YES!

5. Unit A is on a hill. Unit 8 cannot get a flank charge in on unit A because there is less than a two element gap to get, yes or no?

PHIL: 'B' CANNOT GET THROUGH TO CONTACT FLANK. IF 'B' WAS TWO ELEMENTS WIDE. IT COULD CONTACT FRONT AND FLANK, BECAUSE THE SHOULDER WOULD BE IN COMBAT.

6. Assume unit A and unit C are in the open. There is a two element gap between them. Can unit B hit the flank of unit A?
YES!

7. Can unit A breakthrough unit a from rear to front?

PHIL: NO - WHY SHOULD IT WANT TO? DON'T YOU PREFER FIGHTING ENEMY BACKS?

(Ed. Well ... being Normans, we would always prefer to hit the eneny in the back, but I saw this ploy used in a tournament to 'breakthrough and cause a second disorder', thus forcing the poor foot to waver test!]

8. Does a hill have to have a steep slope?

YES, OR IT WOULD BE A RISE.

What defines how much of a hill must be steep?

THE MODEL!
