Just back from Cold Wars with many new plans and ideas for the coming year. Two of the demo games at Cold Wars, Richard Jarosz's Siege Warfare and Paul Dobbin's Trojan War, will both be published by SAGA Publications in time for Historicon. We will also be working on a set of naval warfare rules, under the steady and able hand of Jim Mattes. The dearth of press in the U.K. dealing with AW/MW is still a bit perplexing considering the popularity of the rules. I've had a bit of a rant lately about being left out of the English publication WI after having submitted several pieces over the last few years. I understand the reticence of the editor in respect to publishing articles dealing with a relatively new and unknown rules system, but AW/MW have been around since 1997, albeit as a U.S. product. Perhaps what really set me off was the fact that a new rules set by Robert Avery (released this year) had a piece in the latest issue of WI. How does one feel about this? It's not like I do not have a writing background or credentials. It's not that our rules have not been well received…when given the chance to be played. What IS the problem? I wish I knew. But what I do know is that I will continue to push for AW/MW articles to be published and for the rules to be played as often as possible and seen by as many potential players as possible. Thanks to some of our more influential and enthusiastic players in the U.K., AW/MW will be featured at U.K. conventions starting next year. Perhaps with this exposure, coupled with the release of the rules later this year by The Foundry we will begin to get more press in the U.K. I'll keep writing and see what happens.
