SAGA Publishing Books

by Terry Gore

In another few short weeks, we will be heading to Fall In, the last one to be held in Lancaster. It is also the first to be held away from Gettysburg, where it began. I'll miss not taking the battlefield walks and seeing the beauty of the trees as they turn color. It's a shame really that in so many ways the powers that be have decided to move.

SAGA Publishing has gone through a very rough month. I have tied up much too much money in projects that are simply not producing the necessary income. This has caused me to have to dip heavily into personal funds in order to keep the business afloat. When you run a small business so close to the vest, a major miscalculation can pretty much ruin you. Unexpected rises in postage, printing costs and having to deal with getting such items as ISBN numbers has been expensive, actually way beyond what I anticipated. It is imperative to have a successful Fall In, yet at the same time, I do not have the funds to print a large number of books to sell…Catch 22! We will see how close I can cut things and still keep everybody happy!

At the same time, however, Foundry is finally working at a good clip on Medieval Warfare. They call me on a weekly basis to fill me in on how it is progressing and to ask me rules questions. Once the rules are published by Foundry, the SAGA edition will cease to be available. The upside is that (hopefully) sales will be such that I will be able to finance SAGA Publishing to an extent from the rules sales royalties. This does not mean that the peripheral booklets will cease! I'll continue to publish the army list books until Foundry decides to come out with them and the other titles; the scenario booklets, the new Wars and Warfare books and further rules for new periods of history will still be under the SAGA imprint.

In any event, I still need your SAGA renewals and orders for publications. Thanks for your continued support and I'll see you at Fall In.
