SAGA Publishing Books

by Terry Gore

I hope to get this issue of SAGA out by the end of August, just barely making the deadline. SAGA Publishing has been very busy lately, with the addition of several new volumes to be made available later this year. We will have the long-awaited Roman-Jewish War by James Bloom. This will be the largest book we have yet done, with over 135 pages, many of them in color. We will also be releasing the Wars of the Roses scenario booklet by Jeff Ball and myself. This will have seventeen scenarios for MW with full color maps and many photos of figures, artwork, etc.

Rich Jarosz’s Siege Warfare will be next, covering Medieval sieges with all the attendant siege machines, defenses and using the MW rules as their basis. Paul Dobbins is also working on a Trojan War scenarios book for AW and Larry Irons is starting to do the first scenario booklet for Ancient Warfare called appropriately enough, Ancient Battles.

Historicon was a whirlwind this year and I’ve tried to write a coherent ‘history’ of my experiences, appearing later in this issue. We had a very good tournament and upwards of a dozen SAGA related demo games this July. Fall In promises to be a great time as well, with plenty of demos and our tournament on Saturday. We are expanding our rules systems out to cover more periods of history. We are now in playtest for not only Napoleonic Warfare, but also Victorian Warfare. Each of these systems has their own yahoo rules group for anyone interested.

I am also very pleased to announce that Rob Robertson will now be SAGA’s chief umpire at the East Coast conventions! As the tournaments and participation in them has grown, it has become quite clear to me that we need a person to take over the setting up of the tournaments, coordinate the match-ups, take care of rules questions, arrange table space and manage the whole effort. Rob brings years of experience running the Armati national tournaments, so is more than qualified to step in and take over our SAGA competitions. Welcome to the SAGA staff, Rob.
