Blood and SAGA Publishing

by Terry Gore

There is a lot of talk lately (and email) surrounding the idea of moving the HMGS conventions to a major city. Some say that they are 'tired' of Lancaster, PA. Others cry that we need to attract new blood and by moving to Philadelphia or Baltimore is the way to get large numbers of walk-ins. Still others complain about the lack of fine restaurants and other facilities such as museums.

To me, these guys need to take a non-wargaming vacation because none of these concerns interest me. I go to see old friends and play games. If I want to eat in a fine restaurant, I'll take my wife Pat out to one here in Rochester. I hate looking for parking (and hate paying for it even more) in large metro areas. Cities are not my idea of relaxation. Lancaster, and Gettysburg are good compromise solutions. Let's keep it the way it is.

With the publication of Medieval Battles, SAGA Publishing now has a total of seven books available. This next year, this total will be added to as new titles will appear. These will include Jeff Ball and my Wars of the Roses Scenarios; Medieval Battles Part II; Jim Bloom's Roman-Jewish War; Perry Gray's The Byzantine Military and Dave Bonk's Grunwald - 1410. We are also looking at publishing Siege Warfare, a supplemental rules book by Richard Jarosz, Napoleonic Warfare by Bruce Taylor, Jeff Ball and Terry Gore, and Later 19th Century Warfare by Perry Gray and Terry Gore. These and other projects will keep SAGA Publishing running right through next year!

Historicon is just around the corner. Of course, we will be running our usual demos and tournaments as well as a Player's Workshop for AW/MW gamers. We also have set up regional areas for SAGA with representatives to coordinate SAGA activities and to run games at local cons and clubs. Check out the SAGA website for more on this.

Next Issue:

Look for articles on Historicon 2002, more army lists, some new ideas on replicating different battlefield tactics and an introduction to the Wars of the Roses.
