Medieval Warfare

Rules Clarifications

by Terry Gore

Due to the Artillery Examples I just finished working on, I thought I'd include some clarifications to the MW rules. These are not changes, but reflect items that we need to include in the Missile Fire section of the rules to clarify the differences between gunpowder and mechanical artillery.

So here goes:

1.. On page 45, at the very top of the page, the 3rd bullet down, add the word "gunpowder" before "...artillery."

2.. On the same page, under Fire Modifiers, instead of a single asterisk after "Firing unit has a strength of four" and "Firing unit has a strength of two", give both of these items another asterisk so they now have two **. At the bottom of the page, after the *Ignore these factors..." add a new line: **Ignore these factors for gunpowder artillery and handgunners."

3.. On page 46, under Shielded Missile Troops, add "E) Artillery and Elephants."

4.. On page 50, under the Examples of Flank Charges diagram, change the wording to "...at least one of their stands" rather than the current "...part of their command stand." We have discussed this before, but it needs to be changed in the rules.

5.. Page 57, Supply for Missile Units, under the 5th bullet, the 3rd line, add "non-gunpowder artillery" between "...desired..." and "...unit" so that it now reads

a.. "The second Supply Unit allows one unit to immediately re-supply itself each turn. You can therefore remove one Low on Missiles (but not an Out of Missiles) marker at the end of each turn from an desired non-gunpowder artillery unit."

That's all! Hopefully this along with the new section on artillery examples of play will clear up a couple of problems people have been having with the different types of artillery in MW.
