Multiple Combats in AW/MW

Clarification

By Terry Gore

New players sometimes have a tough time getting used to the multiple unit combat sequence in AW/MW. Remember, that in a multiple unit combat, one where two or more units are fighting against one or more enemy units in one big mass, you must fight out all of the close combats in that particular multiple close combat before taking any required morale tests.

The multiple unit close combat is assumed to be taking place simultaneously. Fight out all of the combats between the units involved in the multiple combat. Do not take any required morale tests until all of the close combats in a particular multiple combat are adjudicated.

Once each unit in the multiple close combat has fought, and all casualties, fall backs, pushbacks, etc. have been done, then begin taking required morale tests, starting from the flank the close combats began from.

This can be decisive, so be sure to play it according to the rules. I'll be putting examples of a sample MW game in the next issue of SAGA for help and clarity.
