Let me run a quick clarification of how stakes are placed. This has been they way we play here and it works fine. I realize that there has been some confusion about this, not least of which from me, so here is how this is done.

• The unit must have a Deploy order to place stakes.
• During the Strategic or Tactical Movement Phase, you may place stakes.
• Note that this is after the Charge Phase of the turn (stakes are not yet placed when charges are declared and made). Placing stakes is NOT a charge response!
• If you had the Initiative and placed stakes, the stakes immediately are placed in position.
• Any enemy Advancing into them counts as crossing an Obstacle.
• Trained troops could place stakes and also do one other Deployment.
