Cold Wars 2001

Convention Report

by Terry Gore

We had a fantastic time at Cold Wars. The Ancients/Medieval events were well attended with Phil and Sue Barker playing in the DBM Doubles events. Phil asked me how many of my grey hairs had been a result of writing AW/MW and I told him they had to go quite a ways before catching up to what my two daughters have done to me....

Alex Aimette and his Anglo-Normans won the MW 25mm 'min' tournament and Alex took home his copy of Neglected Heroes suitably autographed by my fine penmanship (I wonder if he figured out what I wrote yet?)

Greg Taylor won the 15mm AW tournament with his 2nd Punic War Carthaginians.

Kevin Boylan won the 25mm AW tournament with his Later Romans.

All told a fair turnout for a snowy weekend. We had 16 regular players and two who sat in for a round.

Preliminary plans, after talking with Scott Holder about table space, is to run a MW tournament on Saturday at Historicon in both 25mm and 15mm. We are thinking of making this a two-rounder with a third round optional for those winning or still wanting to get more playing time in. I am not planning of running an AW tournament at Historicon, but if anyone would like to volunteer to put this on, please let me know.

Jeff Ball and Dave Bonk will be putting on their fantastic Liegnitz game of MW on Friday at Historicon. We might run a MW Fast Play demo as well, we have plenty of time to plan this out!

Thanks to all who attended and picked up sets of both AW and MW. I have one set of MW left and half a dozen sets of AW. It's much different to come back with a lighter load than you took down, but Lancaster is always a great time.
