A Nubian List for AW

3000-750 B.C.

by Terry Gore

Nubia represented a very real and pwerful threat to her neighbors thoughout the earlier period of our army list coverage. Though not armored in any sense of the word, their exuberance for war made the Nubians popular additions as mercenaries, particularly to the armies of Egypt.

The Nubians relied primarily on their large numbers of archers, augmented by javelinmen and small groups of fanatics. They made use of numbers of skirmishers to screen their unarmored fighters. Tactically, the Nubians could use defensive terrain such as hills, obstacles and the like to sit behind and shoot from, delivering large numbers of arrows into enemy formations. Use the fanatics in ambush situations or to attack any enemy units that are disordered. This army is a real challenge!

Enemies: Egyptian.
