Editorial

This issue marks the beginning of the 'painting season' for many of us as summer slides into fall with winter not far behind. This has been a very productive year for me, army-wise, with two new 25mm Ancient Warfare armies, the Early Germans and the Graeco-Indians finding their way onto my wargames table. Add to this my newest Medieval Warfare army of 25mm Early Byzantines and it has been a great year for painting. I have recently begun using Renaissance Ink's wooden bases with magnets as well as Jay's base flocking material. I am more than pleased with the result. Now I can actually pick the figures up by their bases instead of by the figures themselves. It took a look at Jeff Ball's fantastic WoR figures at Historicon to lead me to emulate the look of his army. The bases also give more stability to the figures (mounted on 60mm wide bases as per de facto WRG basing that I use).

Gaming-wise, it has also been a great year, with playing time increased to almost a game a week. Can't beat that. Much of the gaming has been involved in trying out new rules for AW. We have whole-heartedly adopted the Supply Unit Rule (optional in MW) into the main body of the AW rules. Add to this some 'cleaning up' of the main rules, addition of clarifications, examples, dropping a couple of unpopular rules and re-working the army lists and it has indeed been a very busy summer! All of the rules changes/clarifications for both sets can be found in the Rules Discussion section of this issue.

For the indefinite future, I will be working at home. A physical problem has forced me to quit the music business for the time being and possibly for good. Since I can't play guitar anymore, it's kind of hard to sell them. This is not a bad thing; in fact it's a blessing in disguise. After 28 years in the music business, I'm now able to devote much more time to writing and can actually catch up on a number of items and articles. I'll probably be on disability through December, but that won't keep me from going to Fall In! In fact, that's less than two month's away.

There is a lot of rules-related material in this issue as well as a new army list. Those of you who are interested can go to our rules discussion group at GoreAMwar-subscribe@egroups.com and download the current playtest version of AW, army lists, order markers and QRS for both rules sets. Also, I have been permitted to print a very limited quantity of the Foundry edit of MW. These are 112 pages long and contain all 101 army lists. They contain all of the final rules edits as well as new examples of play and advanced rules, scenarios, options and more. They are $25.00 postage paid direct from me only.

A final note from the editor: We are looking forward to playing our largest tournament yet at Fall In. We have twenty players signed up to play already and can actually use up to four more. Anyone who would like to try either AW or MW in a tournament setting should email me asap so I can get you in.
