Summer Reading Lists

Books, Books, Books

by Terry Gore

Now that summer is officially here, I have resolved to actually sit down and read some of those dozens of books I bought last year and this. I finished Bradbury's The Medieval Archer today (Barnes & Noble). This book gives a good overview of the role of the archer from 1066 to 1600, based upon primary material and contemporary viewpoints. I didn't find what I was looking for in it, i.e. could/did archers ignore their closest enemy to put fire down on a further target, but still was well researched and interesting. Mr. Bradbury also wrote The Medieval Siege.

When I finish Evan Connell's latest novel, Deus lo Volt, about the Crusades, including a short chapter on the Albigensian Crusade, it's on to Beeler's Warfare in England 1066-1189. I've read sections of this book before but never the whole thing.
