Editorial

As we end the eleventh year of SAGA's existence, I thought I would reflect on a few items of interest.

First of all, I would lilce to thank those of you who have been subscribers for over ten years. Thanks to Mitch Abrams, Marty Baker, Mark Bloom, Paul Georgian, Kevin Fitzpatrick, Gary Mahoney, Dan Mitchell, Dave Ottney, Bob Pavlik, George Phillies, Harv Shmit, Stuart Schoenberger, Bob Sillars, Alan Simmons, Carl Stefanelli, Hal Thinglum, Russ Tulp and all my associate and contributing editors who have been with me from the beginning. These twenty-two individuals gave me the initial impetus to continue on into a second year and beyond. My heartfelt thanks for supporting me all of these years.

HISTORlCON was an unqualified success. It seemed that there were even more gamers than last year, if possible. Thanks to Scott Holder for helping me with getting the first MEDIEVAL WARFARE tournament sanctioned by NASAMW for next year's convention. I'm very excited about this, as it has been over two years since I've played competitively. The emphasis will be on fun and good sportsmanship, with prizes and a trophy to the best Medieval general. I will, of course keep you posted on this as the year goes by.

The Foundry wants to release ANCIENT WARFARE as soon as possible. They will probably be publishing them ahead of MW, or, if production schedules allow, concurrently. It will be late next year, I understand, before these versions are available. I still have good quantities of both, though my MW stock will probably be gone at FALL IN. For anyone wishing to get their hands on copies of either set, they are $20.00 each. Send to me for them directly and I'll ship them back the same day, postage paid. I have not released any sets of AW to the retail trade, though this may change, but there may be a few older (unrevised) sets of MW out there.

I've started researching my next project, a book detailing what it was like, emotionally, psychologically and physically, for fighting men in a Dark Age or early Medieval battle. Using contemporay texts, sagas, liturgical writings, poetry and epic tales, I am attempting to construct the total picture of what war in the 500-1066 period was really like. There is a lot of primary and contemporary material available, plus research from re-enactment societies, archeological records, and a wealth of recent scholarship. This will definitely be my winter project this year.

Bruce and I will be going to Fall-In in November to get together with Bryan Ansell about future projects.
