Editorial

by Terry Gore

A great HISTORICON this year, as always. It was edifying to see so many old friends and SAGA subscribers having fun enjoying their hobby and the underrated comraderie that is one of the primary motivators for me to attend year after year. This was the first year in which I have not played in the NASAMW ancients tournament.

The Saga Editorial Staff (left to right): Bruce Taylor, Terry Gore, and Jamie Fish

Bruce and I spent most of our time hosting games of Medieval Warfare, which went exceedingly well considering it was the first exposure to the rules anyone outside of the playtesting goups has had. In fact, by next issue, I should have some significant news about the future of MW. In the meantime, Bruce and I are beginning to work on Ancient Warfare, utilizing the same basic system, but with a much larger man to figure ratio and period specifics. With luck, they will be available next summer.

WRG Rights

There is much talk of groups wishing to 'buy' the rights to WRG 7th and republish them. More than one party approached me about this, and my response is to try for it if that's what you want, but I really don't care to be involved any further in that situation. With our own endeavors becoming recognized, several of us feel that the time is right to strike out on a new path, so we are! The rules we have been working on give us the satisfaction and level of commitment to play that we are happy with, hence the decision to expand into earlier (as well as later) periods of history. Currently, I am negotiating to have my ACW rules published as well as the aforementioned future Ancients rules.

There are a number of new (and some not so new) publications appearing. Barnes and Noble has re-issued several books dealing with the Punic Wars and Hannibal recently. There is also a book I just picked up entitled King Arthur: A Military History by Michael Holmes (Blandford, London, 1996 @ $24.95). Great reading!

Until next time.
