Old Glory Dark Ages

Figure Review

By Gary Comardo

Old Glory has come out with a range of Dark Ages 25mm figures. The range is named 'Revenge' after the set of wargame rules for the period. The figures available so far are Normans, Saxons, and Vikings. They come in bags 30 foot or about half that number of horse. I haven't purchased the horsemen yet so I'm not sure about the exact number. The price is an amazing for a bag of 30!

Each bag includes a variety of figures of a general type. The types I have seen so far include Saxon Carls, Saxon Great Fyrd, Lesser Fyrd, Command; Viking Carls, Carls with axes, Bondi, Berserks, Raiders, Archers, Command; Norman Knights, Mounted Sergeants, Armored Infantry, Unarmored Infantry, Archers, and Command. A few of the 'special' bags, such as Raiders, have fewer figures and a smaller price to match.

The figures are of the 'large 25mm' type, somewhat bigger than a Minifig, for example. The casting is pretty clean, not much in the way of flash or mold lines. Weapons are molded on to the figure but shields are separate. Poses tend to be very animated, which seems to be an Old Glory trademark. The figures are really beautiful little works of art. In my opinion, they are the best 25mm available today. It's hard to describe, but somehow, these figures have 'attitude'. The 'Raider' set, for example has Vikings making off with all of the neat things they might get from a looted Saxon farm. The Saxon Command has a guy on his knees, praying. Highly recommended.
