Review: Hobilar 9

The Journal of the
Lance and Longbow Society

Reviewed by Malcolm Epstein

Now three years old, the Lance and Longbow Society and its journal Hobilar continue to be a source of fine, well-presented information for the medieval wargamer, especially one who is interested in the War of the Roses.

Hobilar #9 is a typical effort. Consisting of 50 pages in length, this issue contains a long article on the Battle of Edgecote (WOR 26 July 1469); a Heraldic Roll of The Household of Henry VIth, complete with color illustrations; a short article on wargaming 1st St. Albans and a lengthy article based an the Household Ordinance of Henry VIth 1445.

In my opinion, this is one of the better efforts produced by a historical/wargaming society. Quality of publication is first-rate throughout, with professional printing. Each issue in the past has contained some color pages.

Published four times a year, information on subscriptions can be obtained by contacting Mr. David Lanchester, 11 Westmeade Close, Rosedale, Cheshunt, Herts, EN7 6JP, England.
