Action

by Terry L. Gore and David Armer

For years now I've been waiting for some group, individual, or a publisher to put out an informal newsletter or magazine for Ancient wargamers here in the U.S. except for occasional 'house organs' or club and convention briefs this has not occurred. Is there even enough interest to market (successfully) an endeavor such as this? I have to believe that there are many gamers who would like to have a forum to voice their questions, frustrations, insights, rules arguments and battle reports, both brilliant and foolish tactics employed, etc. One regular feature which I think we all need to see is a reader response to rules (specifically WRG) and a question and clarification section..,

This first issue will be sent to all active Ancients players who we either know or have an address from out of the Courier or Miniature Wargamer. After that it's up to you, guys. If there is enough interest generated over the course of the next year as far as people subscribing and sending in articles, maps, reports, etc. (i.e. we can break even on this!) than this will be the first of six regular issues of the Saga per year plus a supplement, hopefully carrying a ready-to-play campaign game for different periods of Ancients miniatures. We are committed to one year's worth of issues, anyway, so you won't be throwing any money away, on thecontrary, this is to be your newsletter with your articles and interests to keep it alive.

Unfortunately, this first issue can only contain our own local Rochester area articles, but I promise to print any articles that are submitted, as long as they are singlespaced typed, of interest to the Ancients period of history and original material. There is a questionnaire at the end of this issue with a self-addressed stamped envelope enclosed. Even if you don't wish to subscribe, please fill out the questionnaire and send it in to us.

So let's move out and test the terrain ahead. Who knows what we'll find!

THINGS TO COME

The Age of Arthur, a campaign game for miniatures, from two to twenty players (or more). Complete with map, army lists and easy-to-play campaign rules.

The Hastings Campaign 1066-1067 (or how William lost, at least in our game). Our own local campaign, battle reports, army lists, and the way the different players interpreted the same battles!

The worst painted army awards, 1985!

How to win with a Saxon Army (not easy, but it can be done).

The Wars of Hannibal for miniatures, scenarios, etc. and modifying the board games to suit your table top encounters.
