The next big event for the editorial staff will be Historicon 2003 in Lancaster, Pa. between 24 and 27 July. We shall be hosting an increasing range (which means we are expanding our sets of rules and supplements) of games and our two tournaments for AW (in 25mm) and MW (25mm). There will be demo games for the current range of rules: AW, MW, RW, NW and VW. We are also eagerly awaiting the release of the Foundry versions of AW, MW and VW later this year. This is certainly a milestone for all of us because it means more of our publications in circulation and on an international scale! To date we have published the rulebooks and army lists in small quantities, mainly to North American gamers. So it is our version of "one small step for man, and one giant leap for mankind". This may be of limited interest to some, although it is a big deal for us because it is difficult to gain notice in the gaming industry. There are plenty of rulebooks and accessories being produced, although most are lucky to sell a few hundred copies and true success is measured in the thousands. This is even more of a challenge with historical game systems because of the enormous market share of fantasy games. Regardless of how many of our products are produced, we really are quite happy to have gained the interest of The Foundry as a distributor. Tim Dawson and I have taken a break from writing our "definitive" book "A Guide to Byzantine Armies 395 to 1453". While the writing has halted temporarily, we have been busy recruiting illustrators, cartographers and proofreaders to handle the other parts of producing a pre-production draft. For the immediate future, I shall be working on other Saga projects namely the army lists for Ancient Warfare, and Tim is still looking for work to finance his next post-graduate degree. Rearguard Action It is now time to get ready for Historicon. The Saga staff have been adding the finishing touches to all our demonstration games and reading the rules repeatedly. Those of us involved in the tournaments for AW and MW having testing our armies and gearing up for some good tabletop actions. Well you can see from the header that this issue covers a period of time that I expected to produce two newsletters. Unfortunately, there were a few delays and a lack of submitted articles, which meant that the editors had to get creative and fill the space available. I hope that you, the reader, enjoy what has been lovingly put into the newsletter in terms of content. In the future, there will be more content and more consistency in publication (I certainly hope so!). Announcing the release of a new rules set from SAGA Publishing!
