Popularity

Some of you know that Magweb.com carries this newsletter as part of its collection of 107+ gaming magazines, journals and newsletters. Well, Magweb.com released the results of a poll listing the most popular topics. The foremost was the Napoleonic Wars, which was no surprise to me as it is one of the most popular for both wargamers and re-enactors. Whether it is computer, board or miniature gaming that you enjoy (or a combination of any), there is plenty of choice. There are lots of attractive aspects about the conflict, the uniforms, diversity of troop types and combatants, plenty of battles and campaigns, historical and fictional books, and a good mix between naval and land operations.

I have not been active in Napoleonic tabletop gaming for many years, although I do dabble if other club members want to provide the figures. My own collection was sold many years ago to make room for Seven Years War armies in both 25mm and 15mm. I did retain many of the computer games and I am particularly found of the Talonsoft Battleground series. A friend and I have gone through most of those games (Borodino, Prelude to Waterloo and Waterloo). We have also tried a variety of Napoleonic rulebooks like Napoleon’s Battles and Napoleonic variants of the well-known ACW rules "Fire & Fury".

I have been tempted to purchase a Napoleonic army, probably in 15mm scale. I just have to keep looking for rules that suit me, such as Napoleonic Warfare.
