Quartermaster's Store

Product Reviews

By Terry Gore

The aim of this regular section is to provide information on the products available to wargamers and re-enactors. Readers are encouraged to submit information about anything about such products in future issues.

For the first instalment, we tried a slightly different approach to reviewing products. Mark Anderson of the Bytown Barbarians proposed this idea. He suggested the use of a panel of reviewers rather than one opinion per reviewed item or group of items. This has the advantage of presenting the opinion of a group, who have met to discuss the merits of the reviewed items. Their opinions are then tabulated on a simple table, which shows the main criteria for each review and how each person ranked the items.

The criteria were:

Scale

Detail

Appearance

Animation

Cleanliness of casting (i.e. no flash)

How they look when painted

Ratings were given as numbers ranging from one to five as follow:

  1. Poor
  2. Below average
  3. Average
  4. Above average
  5. Excellent

The final opinion was based on the average of each criterion. The reviewers were then asked if they would buy or not buy the item.

In the next issue, I shall provide ratings for a selection of Old Glory 15mm Later 19th Century European figures.
