Napoleon's Battles.... Charles Vassey, a legendary English game designer with a strong grounding in miniatures is working on a new Napoleonic boardgame on Austerlitz. Vassey is one of the few game designers who can make a wargame feel like miniatures. Look for this one when it comes out. No release date has yet been set. GW and 40K Third Edition ... Rumors coming out of the English gaming community are that GW is planning a Third Edition of the 40K rules. The box set to this new edition will include one or both of the new armies under construction at the GW Orc and Elf factory. The new armies are rumored to be Necors and Dark Elders. There are also rumors that the next campaign pack will feature the long awaited Dark Riders, War Hydra, Executioners, Scouts and Character Modules. What's in a Name ... Those of you considering a miniature campaign in the ancient era should look at DBA and DBM rules. DBA stands for DeBellis Antiquatis These are set of quick set rules made for small armies. DBM stands for DeBellis Multitudinous and allows the players to create and play with bigger armies. Rules cover several different periods and players should have no problem finding a period they like with either of these sets of rules. Recluse In the Corn ... The Gamers have released Operations #26, the newest issue of their house organ. Interesting to note that they will release three boxed games next year. One will be a monster Gettysburg game, the other will most likely be Gazala and the third will be Drive on Kiev. If you are a Gamers fan, the next year looks bright indeed. Several new releases and a monster Civil War Game. Also, Operations #26 features several new scenarios for TCS. Theft In the Alternate Reality ... Dana Jorgensen of Alternate Realities Publications recently went public with a corporate secret not often seen in the public arena. Seems Dana was working with a writer on a new RPG and Players Guide book. The female writer named Rachael seemed on the up and up, but last February, she disappeared with the basic manuscript the players Guide and the advance payment. Dana, after some extensive investigation found the woman had several names. Her pen name was Raven Tyvolt and went by Rachael Carmean, Dempsey, Popek. Anyone who sees Raven or reads of a new game involving the world of Barador is asked to contact Dana at his Company's Headquarters. Show Me The Money ... Game's Workshop has announced that Jess Goodwin, their leading sculptor, has taken two years off after failing to reach suitable financial terms with the company. He will be replaced by Gary Morley. Marquee Press Goes Under ... Marquee Press, publisher of Lost Souls, Legendary Lives and Khaotic has filed for bankruptcy and is no longer producing games. The games may reappear under a different publisher or reemerge under a different company name. We wish the folks at Marquee good luck during this difficult time. 17th Annual Fandom Directory The 17th Annual Fandom Directory is on the street. The 576-paged book lists collectors, clubs, fan publications, conventions and mail order retailers. It also allows you to cross reference topics and interests such as Star Trek, Comic Books, Fantasy, Trading Cards and Role Playing Games. Cost is $22.95. Contact Fandata Publications at 77561 Asterella Court, Springfield, VA 22152 A Wizard Tames the Dragon ... Wizards of the Coast officially acquired TSR on June 3, 1997. Since the merger, rumors have been rampant that Wizards will take over the sole distribution of their own and TSR's product line. This move would cut out the distributors and force stores to purchase a certain quantity of WotC items in order to stock the various lines. Many stores fear that if that happens they will not be able to stock some of the most popular Collectible Card and Role Playing items. Thus far, there have been no such moves from the Wizards and all appears to be business as usual. Falling the European Monster ... Decision Games is about to release the Computer version of the famous SPI "Monster Game" War in Europe. The game is on two disks and is computer moderated. There is no AI (Artificial Intelligence) in the game, the computer simply handles the mundane matters of combat, supply, rail transportation, weather, etc. The game can be played solitaire or with one, two or three players. The game takes the monster game and brings it down to size. The game faithfully re-recreated and well worth the investment of adding this one to your collection.
