The Carnian Ninth Legion is composed of Demon Slayers or R-Hyann. They are the elite troops of the Church of Law. Every Spring the priests of Vashanka, the War God, go forth throughout the Empire of Charn and chose the most physically fit, perfectly formed male children of the land. The children are sent to the Abbey of Dawnswater's Edge where they are trained in combat and indoctrinated until they are fanatical followers of the doctrine of the Church.

On their l8th birthday they are formally inducted into the ranks of the Demon Slayers. They are given their full plate armor and helmet at the ceremony and receive their two handed sword. When a Demon Slayer encounters a demon, the spirit of Vashanka will enter the Slayer and he will fight the demon to the death. Slayers will be accompanied by auxiliaries which act as shooters or spear men. They wear ammunition armor and sallets. The stronghold of the Ninth Legion is a monastery.
