1 . For the last quarter, MAGWEB sent the PW organization a check for $29 as its earnings on the MAGWEB site. A far cry from the $60 we earned for the previous quarter. Evidently, when MAGWEB posts new issues on its site, there occurs a transient period of interest as browsers look to see what's new, and then, having exhausted the available material, rarely go back. THE COURIER, MWAN, and LONE WARRIOR were the big winners, with THE COURIER earning well over $200. At the COLD WARS convention, I dropped off, at the MAGWEB booth, four issues of the REVIEW. Let's hope we can earn a wee bit more than $29 for the next quarter. 2. The March, April, and May, 1999, issues of WARGAMES ILLUSTRATED, the British glossy, carded a series of articles by Guy Halsall on the Arthurian legend... i.e., was there or was there not an Arthur? To me, this series comes under the "why did you publish this stuff?" category. Halsall takes a typical ancients source, tells us what the man is saying, and then says 'we can't trust this guy', or 'this guy wasn't even there', or .'this guy is unreliable'. What does this have to do with wargaming? At the end of the third article, Halsall sums it all up by stating that, as far as his researches on Arthur are concerned, there exists
In short, the author has nothing to tell us, and one would think that he'd give up... but no... he's due back in the June issue with a fourth piece in the series concerning available archeological evidence... I can hardly wait. At COLD WARS, I asked the editor, Duncan Macfarlane, why he's publishing this stuff, and really didn't get an answer, except that Duncan said to wait for the next issue. I shall. 3. This current REVIEW issue, dated February, 1999, is being disseminated sometime around late April, or early May, giving you an idea of just how far I'm behind in my publishing efforts. I've been toying with the thought of publishing a 'three month issue', i.e., calling a single issue, for example, May/June/July. Not that the issue would be any larger than normal, but it would, on the surface at least, bring me up to date. And to ensure that none of the subscribers gets short-changed, I'd extend all subscriptions for an additional 3 month period, so that a years subscription remained a full years subscription, i.e. you sign on for 12 issues, and you receive 12 issues.
