1. Just got back from the HMGS COLD WARS convention at Lancaster, PA. It looked like another sell-out. Will report on the convention in the next issue. 2.I finally got the subscription list straightened out, and sent out renewal notices to those whose subscriptions had run out. Just to be careful, I'm sending out with this issue yet a second notice, to ensure no-one gets caught short. 3.At COLD WARS, Scott Holder and Artie Conliffe confirmed that Scott's American Revolutionary War version of the Seven Years War rules, POUR LE MERITE, would be published in a glossy format. Scott indicated that he'd donate a portion of the profits to the PW organization. Lessee... that'll add about $5.25 to our 1998 income... I'm very curious to see the final version of the rules. I can remember when Rich Hasenaeur took ON TO RICHMOND, and modified and modified and modified and modified some more... until out popped FIRE AND FURY, totally different from the original model. 4.A couple of people I met at the convention expressed interest in the solo games and rules I now often describe in the REVIEW. I explained that solo games in the Simon residence are played only in desperation... when no-one shows up for a Saturday afternoon game. With the table all set up, the figures nicely aligned, the stale pretzels and the soda awaiting the guests, I, too, am awaiting. And if no-one rings the doorbell, what's a poor wargamer to do but play, and make the best of it. Evidently, there are other people in the same boat. Playing partners may be hard to come by for several subscribers. That's the reason, I guess, for the continuing success of the LONE WARRIOR, the magazine that caters to that crowd.
