News and Notes

1. Surely you've all heard of the Vinnitsa Wargaming Club (VWC) ? Surely?

Bob Wiltrout and his wife Andrea recently volunteered to go to Russia for a year as members of a group which will assist in setting up religious institutions... something which, since 1914, hasn't been done too often in Mother Russia.

Bob and Andrea dutifully studied Russian before they left, and then discovered they were being sent to the Ukraine, where the people speak Ukrainite(?) Ukrainese(?) rather than Russian. Arriving in Vinnitsa, Ukraine, Bob immediately forsook all his other duties and set out to establish a wargaming club, and his September letter indicates success.

At present, the VWC consists of only four members - including Bob himself. Unfortunately, the VWC's only assets are the 150 or so 15mm troops which Bob brought along. And so his recent letter contains a plea for help ...

This is a ... request for assistance from an older wargaming establishment, the Potomac Wargamers. Have you folks got any 15mm or plastic figures you'd like to donate to a group with no source of figures at all?

Bob's letter also mentioned an unmentionable... there seems to be a lack of dice in Vinnitsa. What sort of primitive land is that? I'll bet they never even heard of "psiloi".

Bob's son, Jeff, will package and ship whatever goodies we can come up with. The request centers on 15mm and/or plastic figures because the expense associated with shipping 25mm or 30mm figures would be prohibitive.

And so, REVIEW readers, open your hearts, your wallets, and your dust-covered 15mm. storage boxes. Unfortunately, contributions to the VWC are not tax deductable, but this shouldn't stand in your way. Ship all the items that you can spare to me, and I'll ensure that Jef f gets 'em.

2. End of an era. I'm thinking of retiring in December of this year. If I do, this will eliminate the REVIEW, since I'll no longer be able to tippy-toe, at 0600 each morning, to the xerox room in the office, there to run off reams of paper for the benefit of the wargaming world.

Having the REVIEW published in a print shop would be prohibitively expensive, and we're presently looking for a few good men who can carry on the xeroxing load.
