1. There's an article in this issue concerning a WW II naval game presented by Brian Dewitt. I mention that we who maneuvered the Japanese fleet completely failed to coordinate our movement, and during the battle, the configuration below appeared... my two craft, a battleship and a cruiser, were proceeding due west, while two other Japanese cruisers were going east, all apparently on a collision course. Our host, Commodore Dewitt, noted the unorthodox set up, thought that I was in command of all four ships, that they should all be pointing in the same direction, and immediately called out to me that two of my ships were sailing backwards. Obviously, Brian thought so little of my naval prowess, my nautical knowledge, my familiarity with the rules of the sea, that he was able to leap, instantly, to the conclusion that it was me -- out of all the participants at tableside - ME, former Lt. jg W Simon, USNR, the Scourge of the Spanish Main, the Lion of the Barbary Coast, who had placed his ship models backwards. I don't get no respect. 2. Two articles, this issue, on Arty Conliffe's ARMATI rules. One from Arty himself, correcting several errors in my original comments on the rules. And one from Jeff Wiltrout, whose main interest is ancients, and has sampled 'em all... WRG, DBA, DBM, TACTICA... Jeff doesn't state where, an the scale, ARMATI rates, but it seems to be quite high.
