1. PW will sponsor a flea market in September at the monthly meeting at Pilgrim Church (Friday, September 16). The intent is to raise at least $100 to see us through the year. In the past, we've tried to host flea markets on Saturdays, but it never proved worth while. Saturday attendance bordered on zero, and we just about paid for use of the church facilities, but barely. We'll set aside a portion of the church facilities for the September affair. Flea market tables are free, and the only fee we ask is 10 percent of what you sell. 2. Last month I took the bit between my teeth and stated that the HMGS elections of a year ago were unfair and illegal. Alas! I spoke too soon. HMGS President Pat Condray was on the phone: "What was illegal about it?" Pat has, obviously, a vested interested in the election outcome... he was elected to the Board of Directors, and then the Board itself voted for him as President. If the election goes down the drain, so does Condray. Pat indicated that he had researched the HMGS By-Laws, the Charter, the Constitution, the Articles of Incorporation, the Declaration of Independence... you name it... and he could find no instance wherein any of the election procedures or requirements were violated. And, after doing my own research... I must conclude that the man is right!! My comments had focused on what I thought were pre-election requirements pertaining to the need to broadcast to the public the names of the candidates, their backgrounds, their platforms, the need for secret ballots... all the nittygritty that usually comes with the democratic election process. But my scholarly endeavors, as had Pat's, revealed that there were no such requirements! This is doubly embarrassing to me: first, because I had spoken too soon, opening my mouth and immediately placing my foot in it, and second, because I was the fellow who, in the early days of HMGS, gathered and drew up all the documentation pertaining to the organization, by-laws, incorporation, etc. of HMGS. Perhaps I should run for the Board again, and if elected, attempt to undo that which I have done. Then again, perhaps I shouldn't run... why make matters worse?
