1. IMPORTANT NOTICE: At the September meeting, we shall hold the annual PW flea market. No charge for tables, but PW gets 10 percent of your take. As is usual this time of year, the PW treasury is running on empty, and we need a couple of hundred to see us through the year. If you've got any wargaming goodies stashed away in the attic, bring 'em in, and donate 'em to the club. 2. Once again, I'm a month late in publishing, having to postpone the "double issue" which will bring me up to-date. It looks like a July/August effort will do it. 3. I've noted in the hobby publications that on various occasions, one group or another announces in grand fashion: THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE HELD OCTOBER 4TH, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH! There is a yearly convention in Derby, England, and here the convention sponsors shout of their NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. And there's a convention in France, I think, where we have the INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS! And at HISTORICON, doesn't the North American Society of Ancients advertise their NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS? And so on. Enough of this. If any old wanna-be's can announce a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, it's time that PW got in the act. We're probably the oldest wanna-be's in the hobby. I proudly announce, therefore: THE PW GALACTIC CHAMPIONSHIPS Note that we've bypassed the ordinary, everyday national competitions, we've ignored the plebeian, run-of-the-mill international affairs... instead, we're going for the gold: the galactic competitions. And also note that we have wisely and humbly stopped short of the intergalactic championships... intergalacticism will come later. Our PW championships will be held at each PW meeting. All the more reason for attending. And the prizes are unbelievable: a sharpened No. 2 pencil, a tour of the local Notary Public's office... I could go on and on and on... I'm thinking of applying for a grant from the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society (HMGS). I'm assuming, of course, that HMGS will have funds left after IRS rakes them over the coals.
