News and Notes

Editorial

1. We are now set for Saturday, April 11, for our sales fair/flea market/auction. Hours will be from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Pilgrim Church.

2. Another affair, not so close by, is PACIFIC ORIGINS, to be held in San Mateo, California, July 3 through July 5. Ned Zuparko is Miniatures Chairman. If anyone will be on the coast and wishes to join up, contact Ned at 15443 Corinne Drive (tel. 408 356 6709) Los Gatos, Calif. 95030

3. And, yes, we're still looking for articles for the REVIEW. The excellent response we had in terms of the number of submittals for our December issue was greeted by Your Friendly Editor with tears of joy.

"Bless you, my son, bless you:" he gratefully mumbled each time a PW member handed him a chicken-scratched, indecipherable, torn, greasy piece of paper containing a precious scribbled note. He would clutch the fragment to his bosom, then, watery eyes shining, pronounce his benediction of "May Allah expand you.", and stagger happily off to his lonely cell to begin typing.

Such devotion is heartwarming. Don't let the old boy down... keep the articles coming.

4. Denny Largess announces a book sale at the LITTLE SOLDIER... 20% off on most of his stock. Denny also states he can special order certain material for historic buffs. Items such as Napier's 5 volume set and Oman's 7 volume set on the Peninsula War, Esposito's West Point Atlas of the Napoleonic Wars, Oman's Art of War in the 16th Century, etc., etc. These are not inexpensive items and the LITTLE SOLDIER will offer a 10% discount for cash in advance on each order.

5. I stand corrected. I continually stated that Herr Professeur Paul Koch resided in Los Angeles. Not true: The good Doktor lives in San Bernadino. Whatever, he'd still like to hear from his ol' buddies: 25490 Cole Street - Loma Linda, Calif 92354

6. You'll notice this issue contains a genyuwine, honest-to-gawd clippable coupon sponsored by Mike Caum of SOLDIER WORLD, USA. The coupon, good 'till February, is for the innovative game ACE OF ACES, which received favorable comment in the December REVIEW article by Cliff Sayre. Adding to the game's kudos is a recent note from Ned Zuparko:

"Though a miniatures player, I commend your excellent review of ACE OF ACES, which I bought at ORIGINS 80. As an example of a FRESH IDEA, it is tops. The designers told me that besides WWI aircraft, they might make up one for frigate actions."

The good people at SOLDIER WORLD indicate that if the response is favorable, additional such discounts will be forthcoming. SOLDIER WORLD has also promised to help in the April Flea market/sales fair by chipping in for a portion of the rent along with WARGAMER'S CORNER.

7. Business meeting for PW members on Sunday, January 18, from 1:30 to 4:00 PM, at Wally Simon's home. President Wiltrout will preside over a discussion of 1981 activities.
