1. The small group of PWers attending our Thursday night meetings at the Wheaton Library had been sampling a series of newly available rules. Ned Zuparko's VIVE L'EMPEREUR was first set up, followed by Jim Vidlak's 15MM ANCIENTS. Both authors were kind enough to send us copies of their rules. Ned's set is to be published by CHAOSIUM, while Jim distributes his ancients rules himself. The intent of the Thursday night group is to try out various rulesbooks, and then provide feedback to the author - assuming, of course, that he so desires an input. IF we can continue to do this in consistent fashion, and provide meaningful comments to the authors concerned, we may be able to develop a reputation in the wargaming community as a reliable rulestesting source. 2. Paul Koch has evidently struck gold. His experiences with the wargaming group in Fontana, California see his article this issue) convinced him to strike out for new contacts. He recently wrote us of a very pleasant reception by another organization:' "You won't believe it but ON TO RICHMOND really caught on at the REDLANDS Wargame Club meeting. Could you please mail a half dozen or so copies from the REVIEW?" In light of Herr Professeur Koch's past contributions to PW, coupled with his current delightful inputs to the REVIEW, we quickly forwarded his requested copies to him, wishing him luck with his new associates. Paul also indicated...
3. Messrs. Wiltrout and Simon traveled to Raleigh, N.C. last month to participate in one of the 30mm games hosted by Buddy Hoch of Triangle Miniatures. PW President Wiltrout has promised to write a discription of the encounter, a re-creation of the dual battles of Jena-Auerstadt. 4. We are now all set up for the Saturday, April 11th flea market/sales fair. The doors at Pilgrim Church will open at 11:00 AM and close at 4:00 FM. 5. February's meeting was an enjoyable one, thanks to Todd Kauderer, one of PW's newest members, who set up and ran two simultaneous sailing ship encounters using DON'T GIVE UP THE SHIP rules. Todd, who is stationed at the Pentagon, is a naval buff who just moved into the Washington, DC area. 6. Along that line, and assuming the REVIEW receives an article or so on the above mentioned naval battles, we are toying with the idea of putting out a "naval" issue. We've been quietly gathering one or two articles in that vein and would appreciate a few more. 7. Two fund raising efforts currently underway:
b. A thanks to Kevin Donavan, who donated a quantity of pens inscribed with the name POTOMAC WARGAMERS. At 50 cents a pen, you can be first on your block... you can even be last on your block...your position is immaterial as long as you've purchased your status pen. 8. Some notes on convention news:
b. There is a Naval Academy sponsored affair at Annapolis on Saturday and Sunday, March 28 and 29. c. The west coast ORIGINS at San Francisco is still again during the 4th of July weekend. d. On the weekend of May 23, there will be a miniature figure show at Chester (Widener College). 9. The Computor Campaign, described in the November issue of the REVIEW has bogged down. The intent is to have the computor carry the logistic and bookkeeping burden, leaving the gaming to us simple folk. 1'd like to see the basic concepts, as outlined in the article, built upon and expanded; I'd hate to see it die because of sheer inertia. Those interested may contact Wally Simon... and for those not interested: may the primer on their metal figures dissolve, may the paint harden in their 2 oz. bottles, etc., etc. 10. On the Campaign trail...from Andrew Bell I got to use a new set of rules at the Thursday meeting which look to be in the style of what I would like to use for the campaign. Entitled 15mm Ancients, with a few additions and modifications, they will be tested as soon as I can get a copy at a future meeting. I've got to cut this short as it's 6:45 on Friday, so remember, I'm Andrew Bell and this is a Fantasy Campaign for future meetings.
