From: Frank@brazen.demon.co.uk Fellow Grognards: I had a very pleasant phone conversation with Frank Chadwick at GDW yesterday touching on a wide ranging number of subjects. One that will be of interest to this group (and which I have permission to discuss in open forums) is the disposition of the various games in the GDW inventory when the company ceases operations next month. This question has come up recently here and the following should both clarify the situation and offer some opportunities for those of you with an eye toward fame and fortune... The Role Playing Games (and also the Miniatures Rules, I believe) are being actively shopped for placement with existing companies in order to continue the active life of the products. Traveler has (as reported here and elsewhere) reverted to Marc Miller who will continue to license and market that game. The computer rights to all products have been either sold and/or licensed to a single company and are not available. The board games have or will revert in ownership to the game's original designer (except in a few unique cases based on ownership changes specifically contracted for by GDW as a corporate entity). The value of this information to the consim group (and other grognards elsewhere in the ether) is that the rights to these board games may be available for sale on a case by case basis to interested parties. Frank indicated that he would entertain offers of interest in his designs. He isn't sure which ones he would be willing to sell (because until I brought the subject up, he hadn't considered the possibility), but is open to any and all inquiries. Availability of GDW games by other designers would have to be taken up individually with the designers involved. So if anyone out there desperately craves to redesign 1815 or wants the rights to Soldier King, you now have your marching orders. Incidentally, Frank should be up on AOL within a week or so as an individual. In any, case, expect to see him with a significant on-line presence very soon.
