This is a very big game for Vae Victis. Counters are mostly one sided and the result is lots of them. The game system is an adjusted version of that in their Arnhem game. Stacks activate and move and attack. Attacking comes in a number of varieties reflecting the amount of time expended on preparing for the attack. So where you have combat advantage you can attack and keep moving. What confuses this particular game, for me, is that the size of the units ranges from battalions through to tank corps, and the result is more modifiers than you can shake a stick at. As units do not need to move and attack together one can mount a pattern of attacks at the key points, breaking through and moving onwards. Of course ones opponents can do the same. The game has had some important errata and a large change with the appearance of Corps counters (which project supply). These strike me as rather a major change to the system, and one has concerns as to balance now. The map and counters are beautiful as ever with excellent detail from the period (no standard icons here - spot the Hungarians….).
