The Summer Camp Con was held at the Ft. Leav. Hunt Lodge Fri/Sat 16th/17th Ft. Leav. with all proceeds going to support the Historical Re-enactors Group there. The entry fee for the two-day event was $7 - a great deal ($3.50/days gaming)!! I arrived there about 1PM in the afternoon and set up Harold’s Old Games then went around the hall to check out the games going on and the others vendors wares - I always like to be there early to get the "first-shot" at all the best deals on new stuff they bring!! Among the games presented there Friday were: Master &Commander (Steve Allie) based on the movie (Napoleonic Sailing ships - large scale) - Steve said the ships & crews used were available in model kits from Laden Swallow Hobbies, Avalanche Games Panzer Grenadier board game of various WW2 battles at platoon level - interesting battle between Russian/German opponents, 15mm Amer. Civil War battle using Tom Day’s rule set that emphasizes "threats & morale tests" to determine battle advances & retreats over a nice-looking "geo-hex" terrain table, Amer. Civil War naval battle between USS Kearsarge & CSS Alabama with a few extra ships on each side thrown in so each player had a command using Darrin Loomis’s "Raiders & Blockaders" rules & ironclad ships available from Titan MMP, Age of Imperialism Eagle-brand boardgame with 6 players trying to control the 1880’s world as major colonial powers run by Tom Day/Hardtack Hobbies, French & Indian War battle put on by Mike Machell using his previous "best of show " presentation of game & terrain very detailed and great-looking! Friday there were 5 vendors there including Laden Swallow Hobbies (Steve Allie) with lots of DBA armies-in-a-bag, large scale naval sailing ships from Europe used in his "Master & Commander" game and terrain pieces for the miniatures gamer; Hardtack Hobbies (Tom Day) lead figures from all periods & Eagle-brand multiplayer board games (Napoleon in Europe/Attack/ Amer. Civil War etc.); Buffalo Books & Hobbies (George Knapp) with painted/mounted figures of many periods ready to play, rules, and lots of Roccos tanks & other scale vehicles for tabletop battling; Harold’s Old Games (Harold Morgan) lots of old SPI/AH/S&T boxed & baggie games from all periods (Civil War/WW1/WW2?Modern) at reasonable prices including "Ebay collectable quality items"; Titam MMP (Darrin Loomis) Rules-sets, figures, books, & Civil War Ironclads including "new" models of about 10 Union & Confederate sailing ships to go with his ironclads! Foodservice was available there and included sodas, hot dogs, polish sausage, chili, chips, & potato salad all at reasonable prices! There were about 30 people there Friday night! Saturday morning games presented were George Knapp’s "D-Day" (my grandson Stefan played in this one and had a great time trying to hold back the Allied rush for Caen - Caen fell on the last turn!), the Battletech Robots game (Bob Roby) fighting with lazers & rockets in multi-player combats, Amer. Civil War (Tom Day) in 15mm scale, Napoleonics Battle in 6mm on "geo-hex" terrain - great looking game with lots of troops on the table, Titan Games (Darrin Loomis) "Battle Past Ft. Sumter" lots of Civil War ironclads involving 15 players each having a ship or a land battery including Ft. Sumter S.C. - this game won the "Best of Show" award for it‘s presentation and player’s interest!! On Saturday morning a new vendor showed up, the Wetpowder Club (Mike Sanderson) Flea-Market table with lots of interesting miniaturist history books & figures including French/Indian War, Amer. Rev., 1812, & Amer. Civil War ( I bought a bunch of these for my library!). Saturday afternoon they had a multiplayer DBA tournament, Roman Ramming Galleys game (Harold Morgan) using over 40 galley ships made from the yellow plastic covers off "Bic" shavers & painted cardboard ( a war gaming idea for those looking for in-expensive alternatives to expensive "lead" ships!), War of 1812 Battle (Scott Hughes), Panzer Grenadier board game scenario Russo-German battle, WW2 France 1940 Tank Battle (Duane Fleck) using Battleground rules with over 30 tanks on the table ( I watched this one with the Germans charging down the road to get thru the French lines on to Paris while small batches of French tanks tried to stop them getting off - the French won a "tactical victory" this time by killing more German tanks on the table than got off the other side - very lucky French shooting!). There were about 50 people there Saturday afternoon at the busiest time! Saturday night’s gaming included a multiplayer Attack board game, Napoleon in 6mm, Battletech Robots, S.A.S. WW2 Desert Raiders - a meeting engagement between the "recon" elements of both sides - a real wild "shoot-em-up" of jeeps ,armored cars, and trucks dodging behind hills of sand. Master & Commander, and WW2 France 1944 Tank Battle (Duane Fleck) using Battleground rules with 2 Jagdpanthers vs. 9 Shermans coming down the road ( I wanted to stay to see this one too but I had to go home!).
