The Return of the Big K.C. Gaming Convention - LSHS – March 27th ’04 The Lees Summit High School Gamesday (South K.C. Mo.) was a great success with 237 registered attendees (students & adults) during the three gaming sessions from 9AM-9PM. Duane Fleck (teacher / wargamer) was the POC for this event and organized members of various local K.C. Wargame clubs and students to get together to play & learn about tabletop miniatures wargaming. He set up a website at "www.Recruits-Con.Com" and reserved the school cafeteria for the day. We thank him for his efforts to grow the hobby in Kansas City and to also for establishing “The Organization of Strategic Gamers" wargaming club for the students of Lees Summit High School ! Some of the games put on in the 1st session (9AM-12PM) were: “Magnificent 7/High Noon” (Western Gunfight) put on by Tobey Geise using 25mm figures in a great looking many-building town
The second session (1PM-4PM) presented : American Revolutionary War “ Battle of Gettysburg 1777” put on by Steve Niner with 25mm figures nicely painted and a good terrain layout. The British players used their “bayonet advantage” to hand-to-hand the American militia lines out in the open and broke the American militia lines!
The third session had more: "Flames of War" WW2 battles
There were about 17 vendors there including Phil Gilgor's Tabletop Hobbies, George Knapp's Games & Figures, Darrin Loomis's Titan MMP (civil war ironclads & rules), RLBPS, Hobbytown USA of Lees Summit, Harold's Old Games, Wetpowder Flea-marketeers, Hatsoff Flea-marketeers, Laden Swallow Hobbies, Lion's Den Flea-marketeers, H&O Hobbies figures, Mini HQ, Twilight Cards, Victory Force Miniatures, Neo-Forge, Alpha Miniatures, and Wargames Dot Com from York Nebraska. There were numerous flea-market items including wargames, figures, military books, and gaming items - many deals were found there! Food was provided on-site of hot-dogs, pizza, chips, candy bars, and cold sodas with all proceeds going to the Organization of Strategic Gamers - the Lees Summit High School Wargamers Club! We helped clean up the cafeteria and left the building. The Lees Summit High School Wargames Day was a great success for the number of games presented, the number of students that came to play and learn, and the responses indicate that more “gamedays” will follow! Thanks to the members of the Wetpowder Wargamers of Lees Summit, Lion’s Den Wargamers of Belton, “Tabletop Games” and Tabletop Gaming Society, Mike Machell, and others who brought their terrain and figures there and spent their valuable time putting on their games for the students to learn about the hobby and to grow the wargamers of tommorrow! This is a "growing thing"! Harold Morgan in Gladstone Mo.
