Product Review: Ken Van Pelt
Received a sample set of wooden figure bases from Mitru Costea 3rd. They arrived in a variety of sizes and made from very nice quality finished on both sides plywood. Mitru will custom cut bases to your needs. The bases run in sizes from 1"x 1" up to 3"x 3" and any increment in between. Prices start at .05 cents for the smallest up to .20 cents for the 3x3. Postage and handling is a flat 3.50 on orders under 20.00 and orders over 20.00 are shipped free. Here is what I think. The bases in the sample pack varied in height and it is a pretty thick height! The spec sheet says the product is AAA+ Plywood between 3/16 and 1/4 inch thick. All orders are processed from the same stock and should match. However, you will need some forethought in ordering a set of wooden bases. If you want this level of quality in an army base in my opinion you would need to have an army painted and ready to game and perhaps want to improve the quality of the collection by re-basing them on all matching wooden bases. In fact it would be a good idea to have both sides of a conflict collection based on the same batch of wooden bases to improve the look of the collection. I also think the height thickness would improve the look of 25mm figures and larger better than the smaller figures. Too much base too little soldier would not look as good. Mitru Costea can be reached at 1386 Meetinghouse Road, Meadowbrook, PA 19046.
