Punic Wars III as a missionary effort into the fields of non historical gamers, promoting the hobby to the masses, was a success. Financially it about broke even with enough to keep CMH alive for another year. We had 140+ students of College of the Ozarks attend for from 45mins to 3-4 hours. We had 17 students and their chaperones from Purdy Jr. High & High School History Club attend and spend literally from 9:00am till 9:00pm, they would have had more but ran out of space to move them in their vehicles, maybe next year a bus. There were about 30-40 gamemasters, Dealers, and Local Gamers in attendance. For a total of 180 plus participants. We began gaming at 9:00am and continued to 9:00pm with breaks for lunch and supper. The college provided the gamemasters and dealers with hotel rooms for Friday and Saturday nights and lunch on Saturday. We kicked off the morning with Lion's Den running Fighter Command (WWII:Flying Tigers vs. Zeros) outside in a misting overcast on the lawn, Richard Houston running "55 Minutes in Peking" the Boxer Rebellion in 25mm, Jeff Lawrence & Co. running "Little Round Top:American Civil War in 25mm, and the when the Bill, Grady and Chuck arrived from Arkansas they ran Blue Max literally all day. Overall Punic Wars was a great success! We met Mike Eldred at the Branson Con, and he is the Executive Regional Director for the Boy Scouts of America in Springfield, Missouri. He was interested in the Lion's Den American Civil War game and invited us to Springfield for the 1997 Wilson's Creek Battlefield Park Camporee. We attended this show as part of the Scouts activities for the weekend. Lion's Den Wargames set up an American Civil War Scenario in the Pavillion at the Battlefield Park. We also produced a Special Edition of the Penny Whistle (October 1997), that featured a Wilson's Creek Battle game in a folder format. Mike was an exceptional host and provided for our entertainment. We were allowed to participate with the scouts in viewing the General Swinney Museum of Trans Mississippi artifacts that is the most extensive in the country! This is highly recommended as a must see museum. We also toured the Battlefield park and museum. From Mike: "Thanks again for coming out. We had a total of 245 participants at the event. Several of the troops are talking about coming to next years Punic Wars." Promoting the study of military history and wargaming! Lion's Den Wargames would like to thank Mike, The Boy Scouts, Carthage Military Historians, The College of the Ozarks, and all of it's fine students, for a great fall wargaming season.
