We are coming out early with this edition of the Penny Whistle because of the planned appearance at Punic Wars II. The Lion's Den club will host two events at this Convention in Carthage, Missouri. The first event will feature the 54mm sculpted figures by Jon Haworth. the event is called "Taney County Baldknobbers!" This will be a Western gunfight scenario based on the real historical situations in Taney County, Missouri after the American Civil War. Carthage is very near the original events surrounding this genre and there should be a lot of local interest for this scenario. The second event is 1/700th scale air to air combat in W.W.11. This event has been brought about by my casual wanderings through other club's newsletters and suffering from the "I can do that!" syndrome that causes all the dead lead purchases we incur. Fortunately, the miniatures for this new project are really that-Miniature! Read all about the new game in the Scenario Generation article in this issue. Something I am looking forward to is the new campaign game that is taking shape within the Tornado Alert. "Thundering Republican" is the newspaper out of the fictional location-Temptation, Arizona. The game involves characters from the western gunfight era. This will be a good impetus to painting the Guernsey Foundry miniatures. The Tornado Alert has been a rich source of inspiration lately and this looks like another example of fun and games!
