The Lion's Den Wargaming Club would like to officially introduce two new members to the roster. Mr. Carl Lathrop is rather new to the hobby, but brings as much enthusiasm to the games as anybody I have ever seen. He has taken to the strategy concept very well and has become an excellent general in our games. Also, Carl coached the electric football version of the Jacksonville Jaguars to a much better season than the real counterparts had ever imagined. Welcome aboard, Carl. We knew Mr. Kevin Smith from the various wargame conventions that we attend locally. Kevin has always been a great gamer in the past and since he was a regular convention gamer, his presence will be welcomed greatly. He recently drove in to promote a new game he invented, going above and beyond the normal limits of my idea of weekly gaming. Speaking of Kevin's new game, you will be able to participate at the Call to Arms convention in April. The game is based on the racing circuit of Winged Outlaw Sprint Cars. This game is a pure joy for anyone interested in racing games. The mechanics of the game are based on a card system with movement and specialty type cards available. Each turn is divided into three segments and you must play the cards that are dealt to you for that turn. This may sound easy, but take it from a personal standpoint it is a lot harder than it appears. There are cards that allow a player to enter a turn at a higher rate of speed with less of a chance to lose control, or allow a driver to move before another, or even allowing a car to move an extra space. The list goes on and on. Speaking of the cars, you can purchase a car at any toy store. They are 1/87th scale winged sprint cars made by Racing Champions Inc. . The beauty of this is the fact that the cars come "ready to roll", with no assembling or painting required. Ed. note: It is possible to paint these cars if you want a customized piece, but the variety in which the cars come in is enormous. The track consists of three lane straights and two lane corners. Corners have "safe speed limits" in the different sections of the turn. If you exceed this limit, then there is a chance that your car will lose control and spin, or worse, crash! CRASHING SUCKS!!! This is a fun game to participate in and I look forward to firing up blue L4 again in the near future.
