Chapter 5 Turn 1: Fairies

Background Information

by Abram Paradies

“The wee folk,” they are called. In the glory that was the High Lords (of the First Age), the Fairies often flew about with messages and purposes. They were always helpful, always loyal to what Godly represents. Then came the war of persecution. The Charge Supreme tried to hunt all non humans down. But then he was weaker; and the human-kin escaped and hid themselves from the prejudice of men, including the Fairies...

As they have child-like faces, love to sing, laugh, and speak in rhyme, and grow only to a height of three and a half feet tall, fairies are usually mistaken for small elves or children. Some traveling Bards think that the songs of the fairies actually have more beauty than those of the Elves! Also, only an experienced Bard would ever start a riddle challenge with a fairie. That fairies really can fly is accepted by if not suspected by all.

Each fairie has a set of wings that are like a fingerprint. Most are colored by shades of green and clear, to blend in with the forest surroundings. Their wings are not like that of a bird but more like that of a butterfly--only one hundred times stronger. Fairie wings will also grow back if torn or cut.

There are some abilities that also should be mentioned about fairies. No insect pest ever seems to bother a fairie. The presence of a fairie usually keeps them away. Secondly, a fairie can hide from almost anything as if invisible- especially when in a forest or brush. Third, fairies have learned how to gain knowledge from the creatures and vegetation of the forest. Fourth, fairies can see and sense heat, and can see ultrawaves at night even in total darkness. They also have incredible distance vision, like that of a falcon. Fifth, hardly any form of magic has any kind of effect upon them. Fairies can not only use magic, they can disperse it. But, they themselves are not sorcerers because of their abilities and wisdom. Finally (and also secretly), fairies have a special attack form called “Kyta” in the language of the Fayoin or also known as “going kinetic.” Used only in a deadly emergency, his or her whole body becomes filled with glowing energy that not only helps him or her attack with superhuman force, but also causes tremendous energy damage to the foe. The damage effects evil beings much the same way as darkfire breath effects good creatures...

In Arveta their are two main kingdoms of Fairies. The Northern Band may be found in a hidden valley in the Northern Dondor Mountains, called Fir Valley. They have yet to take on any great tasks because the Charge Supreme is now looking for their homeland. The Southern Band may be found in the Southern Dondor Mountains, on top of Apiary Mountain, mountain home where the winged creatures of Arveta first came forth. The Southern Band does not venture down, preferring to keep to themselves. Some say that there are fairies from the Southern Band keeping watch over the good creatures and peoples of the world, patiently waiting for a Torontair to return... (Remember that the Charge Supreme is now Lord in Dondor. He intends to make himself God-Emperor, lord of his own supreme race with diabolical intentions...)
