In the ancient days, the Lords of the Holds commissioned that "Monestaries be constructed for the purpose of training physicians. These healers will be assigned to military and public service." Although the world of Arveta is passing through a Dark Age and there is no Lord in Dondor, some of the original schools still train healers. When these physicians complete their training, they are sent forth by their teachers to do good works for the glory of God and the Holds. Their quests are for the purpose of gaining practical experience and to find any trace of a Lord among the Arvetans. The Eyri formerly were assigned to units in the Holds; but now, their assignments take the form of a quest in the wild... Mentally, an Eyri is almost incorruptible. For example, he would not steal even if he could not buy anything. Physically, he is in top fighting condition. The enemy knows this when it is too late for him. An Eyri is a trained martial artist and can survive in very harsh environments. In addition to being an experienced physician with physical means, such as the known drugs and salves, and mountaineering first aid; an Eyri is empow- ered with a psionic ability that can cause healing... Eyris take an oath of service called the "Vita," which is similar to the Hypocratic oath. He has respect for life. Most Arvetans trust and will heed an Eyri because of their ancient reputation.
