Napoleonic Museum Exhibits

Napoleon at Ste-Helene ... Stewart Museum , Montreal , Quebec

Napoleon, the man and the legend, has fascinated generations and continues to this day to intrigue and inspire scholars and laymen alike. On display at the Stewart Museum will be everyday objects which surrounded Napoleon in his daily life as well as works of art, furniture, personal papers and military decorations, giving the visitor an intimate look at his life. The core of the exhibition seeks to uncover the more human aspects of Napoleon, his battles and aspirations, his loves and his losses up to his years of captivity and subsequently his death on Ile St-Helena in 1821. From the time of his birth, Napoleon was a precocious child and throughout his life he projected an image which looms larger than life.

Private and museum collections

Prepared under the guidance of Bernard Chevallier, world-renowned Napoleon expert, curator and director of the Musée national des chateaux de Malmaison et de Bois Préau in France. Features collections from the Musée d'Ajaccio in Corsica, the Musée at Ile d'Aix as well as other major institutions.

Napoleon... at Ile Sainte-Hélène will certainly enlighten those who seek a n understanding of this historical legend. The Stewart Museum will welcome Napoleon... at Ile Sainte-Hélène and his numerous admirers from May 5th to October 11th 1999.
