Napoleon and Waterloo:
The Last Gamble, 1815

CD-ROM

by Kevin Zucker

This is a very exciting project - one that could revolutionize both the teaching of military history and the understanding of our games.

The Operational Study CD is a visual campaign history. A modern version of the West Point Atlas, similar to the Study Folder from your NAB 1st editions.

Envison a simple slide show with the situation by date. June 12th. June 13th. June 14th. As nifty as that might be it radically under-utilizes current technology.

Now imagine one continual flow of movement, with arrows representing marching columns, toothed-lines showing battle positions. Vedettes too! You can pause to observe more closely at your leisure.

For our first project we began with a baseline map, from The Emperor Returns for the opening stages, from Last Days of Glory for the last five days. Not merely a campaign narrative, Napoleon and Waterloo is a modern campaign study for you to truly visualize what was going on from the point of view of the commanders.

Functions/options/gadgets:

  • Ability to zoom in and/or move around the map.
  • Rousing music.
  • Overlay modern road net.
  • Click on markers/icons and get Commander's image, OB.
  • Overlay historic markers/monuments/museums.
  • Display weather information for the time.
  • See copies of orders, bulletins, newspapers.
  • See what each side perceived -versus- reality.
  • Excerpts from dramatic narratives at key moments
  • Photos of historic places today

Our 1815 campaign study will allow you to see the campaign from Wellington's or Blucher's perspective, to provide massive clarity to the operational understanding of this campaign.
