From: Military History Press MHP now expects to have its first book, "Napoleon's Last Grande Armee," delivered to its warehouse in Oakland, California, in February 2004. MHP's second title, "Napoleon's Finest," will be in the warehouse in late March or early April. This additional delay was due to a great opportunity, as well as unforeseen production problems. [Ed sez: If you have been an OSG fan for long you are aware of the delays that are a part of the publishing business.] At the beginning of October we were presented with an opportunity to lease an office-warehouse complex with sufficient space for growth. This opportunity had to be acted upon quickly. The move into this facility in November, and the continuing work to set up in our new location took much longer than we anticipated and delayed our editing and layout schedule. Our books are crafted, not simply manufactured. The data, maps, artwork, etc., will be presented in a first-class format. We prefer to take the time necessary to make an extraordinary book. The customers with whom we have spoken expressed their agreement with this philosophy and told us that they are willing to wait a little longer for a superior product. As an example of why it is taking more time, we are adding an illustrated glossary of terms for the uniform book "Napoleon's Last Grande Armee" so that the equipment and different parts of the uniforms depicted can be better understood. There are also questions about the correct spellings of locations, uniform terms, etc., and we are carefully organizing these to avoid confusion over German, French, and English words used to describe the same place or thing. The end result for both books will be a much more comprehensive reference guide that we believe is worth the investment of a few more months of work. We want to thank everyone for their patience and continued support as we start our new publishing company. Matt DeLaMater and Dana Lombardy
[Ed sez: OSG will delay processing charges for MHP books until the books are printed. We will wait for advance copies of the two books before charging them. That way you can reasonably expect to receive the books within about 30 days of charge. I heartily endorse the two volumes (see order form). They will remain useful, attractive, and valuable. I've seen part of the manuscript, along with some of the maps and illustrations that will appear in these two books. These books will be essential to an understanding of the Napoleonic Wars. Napoleon's Finest is a translation of the Journal of the 3rd Corps - a model of its kind and almost impossible to find in French. For fans of 1806: Rossbach Avenged and The Eagles Turn East, you can read this detailed account of Davout's operations in English and follow along with the maps and counters. I think it will become a vital primary source on this period. The uniform book, Napoleon's Last Grande Armée, shows the way the soldiers actually looked in the summer of 1813 when French units were being filled with inadequately trained conscripts. These are limited editions. They'll most likely be out of print within a few months after they arrive from the printer. Order them now through OSG and you'll get a great deal and at the same time help us publish more games in our series.] Back to OSG News January 2004 Table of Contents Back to OSG News List of Issues Back to Master Magazine List © Copyright 2004 by Operational Studies Group This article appears in MagWeb.com (Magazine Web) on the Internet World Wide Web.
