Kevin Zucker will present seminars on three aspects of Napoleon's Campaigns. 7:30 Thursday July 4 Napoleon's Headquarters on the Road To Moscow, Or, The Crucible of Vilna. Lithuania was the base of operations for the entire campaign, but the country was too poor and undeveloped to function as required by an army of 400,000 (the largest gathered in one place since ancient Persia). An examination of logistics, military government, and such from the Emperor's correspondence, and how it all affected the campaign that followed. 7:30 Friday July 5 Battles in the Napoleonic Wars. Comparing the range of outcomes (men lost and pursuit distances) in 20 battles. I would consider whether terrain and tactical factors are enough to account for the disparity in outcomes. Battles got much bloodier between 1796 and 1815, as a result of increased artillery. Quality of troops and morale also play a part, the latter esp. when one side sees reinforcements joining their opponents. 4:30 Saturday July 6 The Spanish Campaign. Kevin will bring us something from his current research into the French miseries in Spain. The first guerrilla war in which guerrilla was spelled correctly. The War College includes Les Grau, Gary Rhay, Dana Lombardy, Frank Chadwick, Matt Caffrey, David Glantz, Jack Radey, Charles Sharp, John Prados, Richard Muller and Wade Hinkle presenting a full schedule of seminars and panel discussions on all eras of military history.
