Comments on the Playtest Package

Highway to the Kremlin

by Mark Owens

The map looks wonderful and the counters look amazing. The rules have looked thorough, though I haven't really had a chance to go over the most recent revisions.

The rules for burning Moscow coupled with achieving victory were excellent, from a purely theoretical "I haven't played them yet" basis.

There exist reasons for Napoleon to drive hard and arrive at Moscow early, as well as for the Russians to pause and fight periodically. Napoleon is not tied to Moscow as well, though departing early will compromise any victory. I enjoy being given historically valid options, both operational and strategic. One shouldn't be sure of victory, for either side.

What more can one ask? I think the game appears valid so far as game AND as history!

Oh, wait, can we use Ney as a rearguard on a bridge with only a personal escort of 12 men in ragged uniforms? Does that mean we use the Ney leader as a vedette when he's without troops? If we do, must Marshall Ney then be the last leader counter out of Russia? More Chrome!! Yippee!!
