We have organized a SECOND TOUR for this August, beginning a few days AFTER the Italian tour. This tour will start in Vienna and explore the battlefields of Wagram, Aspern-Essling and Austerlitz. The tour starts of the 6th of August (arrive in Vienna on the 5th) and lasts through the 11th. Give us a call or email for more information. Join us on either of our tours to the battlefields of Napoleon. The routes have been carefully crafted to combine history with scenic appeal. The great deeds of the past are almost palpable, there is a memory lingering in the air of these places that makes a visit unforgettable. We will follow in the footsteps of the armies, through towns filled with reminders of a bygone age, past forests and streams, old inns and churches standing just as they were when the grognards passed. We will travel at a comfortable pace, taking time to explore along the way. We will meet local historians and enthusiasts who are familiar with the terrain and conversant with details concerning their locality which are often not recorded in the history books. We will lodge in period inns and enjoy home-cooked specialties of the region. To help you follow the action you will receive a Tour Guidebook, containing battlefield maps and a day-by-day account of events. PRIOR TOURS Mr. Zucker has conducted six prior tours, including the same itinerary for the Italian campaign in 1992, the Waterloo campaign (twice), the 1805 and 1809 campaigns on the Danube, and the 1807 Campaign in Poland. In addition Mr. Zucker organized a tour of Stonewall's Valley campaign in 1992. PARTICIPANTS We are on the road "wheels up" at 0800, no time for that last cup of coffee, until about 6 pm. Our itinerary is planned down to the quarter-hour, though we leave the window open to unexpected opportunities. The history is exciting, but the best part is meeting people.Ê All the localities have put us in touch with local historians in their area. They are enthusiastic to share their knowledge about their past.ÊA number of Napoleonic wargaming enthusiasts from the region will accompany us and provide translation. The Tour fee INCLUDES
The Tour fee DOES NOT include side trips and entertainment, evening meals, tips, or airfare. We recommend you stay around for a day or two after the tour for general sightseeing, and we will help you make those arrangements. Lodging All inns on our route maintain a highÊstandard; though not luxurious, many are historic. Reservations are booked two to a room. You can book a private room for an extra charge. Guidebook Given to all participants, bound galleys of a 60 page history of the campaign plus information about Italy, notes on what to bring, etc. CommentsAlessandro Massignani First thank for your kind e-mail with the OSG news, I like very much to read them. I want to say that depending on the number of the people travelling on Marengo, Arcole, etc., a friend of mine (his name is Piero) would invite you and your friends at an evening in his hill house which is not far from Lonigo. We, Enrico, perhaps some other people and I would take care of the food supply, not luxurius but anyway enjoyable (some pasta, wine, meal, etc). I hope we can organize this nice meeting between us grognards. Riccardo Rinaldi In Borghetto [BiI hex E2722] there is a nice hotel in a stone house in the village. The ideal place for a quiet weekend getaway, only it was so close to our place we never really considered it. Of course, you remember Borghetto, right? It is considered a very nice, romantic spot, with medieval ruins and all, but apart from a restaurant and a piano bar, there is not much to do at night other than a stroll on the river bank. Verona, Mantova and the Garda Lake are close (25, 35 and 15 kms approx.). For More InformationSend email to kzucker@charm.net or call 1 (410) 367-4004.
