The latest edition of the Regimental Sub-System (RSS) is "A Fearful Slaughter" the battle of Shiloh in 1862. Two maps and 1100 counters make Shiloh the most playable game in the RSS line, with many short scenarios and the full battle taking a long weekend or two at most.

Scenarios recreate all the major historical attacks, as well as some hypothetical actions, and introduce alternate orders of battle to indulge your "what if' side. There are 11 scenarios in all, about half of which use just one map or less.

One scenario allows players to recreate an "ultra-historical" version of this early war battle, using a number of optional rules aimed at replicating some of the chaos of this fight. Of course, random events play a role as well. Hypothetical forces include not only Van Dorn's "Army of the West" for the Confederates, but also extra Rebels from Fort Donelson and Island Number 10, as well as Federals from more of Buell's Army. All told, the optional are equal in size to the actual forces engaged, allowing players great flexibility in managing hidden OOBs and maintaining surprise on the game table.
